Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs hammered rival Georgia Tech 45-0. Everyone saw it coming.

Quarterback Stetson Bennett finished 14-of-20 for 255 yards and 4 touchdowns. Tight end Brock Bowers caught 2 of those touchdowns, while Jermaine Burton and Ladd McConkey each caught 1. Bowers ended up with 100 yards receiving. Kenny McIntosh and Daijun Edwards both recorded rushing touchdowns.

Smart’s defense also pitched a shutout against Tech.

Following the blowout win, Kirby Smart was asked about his team’s performance.

“I was pleased we started fast for a 12 p.m. game. We needed to start fast, and I thought we did that.”

Smart was asked how his defense went from good to elite.

“Accountability. There were times today when we were not elite. So, I want to be careful about that word. They did play hard early, but we have a lot more left ahead of us. And we have to keep getting better and keep ascending. I’m proud of the effort the entire team gave, but we have to do a much better job on special teams and run game to be able to get elite.”

Smart then was asked how he gets his team to play with so much effort every single play.

“That’s the standard. They hold each other accountable for that. I’ve been proud of how the leaders have led, and when they do it themselves, everybody follows.”
