Bryce Young is your 2021 Heisman Trophy winner. He’s the 4th Alabama player to win a Heisman and in doing so a year after wideout DeVonta Smith won, he helps Alabama become only the 6th program to have back-to-back winners.

The sophomore and former 5-star California import was splendid this season, throwing for 4,322 yards and 43 touchdowns. He completed 68% of his passes, only threw 4 interceptions in 462 attempts, and had at least 300 yards through the air in 9 of Alabama’s 13 games so far this season.

“Well, I think Bryce played extremely well for us all year long,” head coach Nick Saban told reporters in New York Saturday night after the awards ceremony, per 247Sports. He was asked at what point in the season did he think this could be a truly special year for his young quarterback. This, Saban said, was a culmination of consistent excellence.

“We’ve sort of had our ups and downs as a team. I don’t really think that his performance (has) ever contributed to that. He played extremely well on a consistent basis, and I think consistency in performance is what helps you sort of have the kind of season that he had relative to statistics or wins or however you want to look at it. But phenomenal drive at Auburn and phenomenal performance against Georgia in the SEC Championship Game I think really sort of accentuated the kind of season that Bryce was capable of and the kind of season that he had.”

Trailing 10-3 at Auburn with less than 90 seconds to play and missing his top receiver, Young led the team on a 12-play, 97-yard scoring drive to force overtime. Alabama would go on to win. Then, in the SEC title game, Young ripped apart the vaunted Georgia defense to the tune of 421 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The Heisman winner will next take the field against No. 4 Cincinnati in the College Football Playoff semifinal game at the Cotton Bowl on Dec. 31.
