The Denver Broncos are reportedly considering a former Tennessee standout as their next head coach.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter shares that the Broncos have requested to interview Jerod Mayo.

Mayo played at Tennessee from 2004-07, earning first-team All-SEC recognition in his final season. He was selected by the New England Patriots No. 10 overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. With the Patriots, Mayo was named Defensive Rookie of the Year for the 2008 season. He received first-team All-Pro recognition in 2010, the same season of his first Pro Bowl. Mayo was again selected to the Pro Bowl in 2012. Mayo helped the 2014 Pats win Super Bowl XLIX.

Mayo played for the Patriots through the 2015 season. He returned to the club as inside linebackers coach in 2019.

Denver fired Vic Fangio on Sunday, following the team’s regular-season finale on Saturday, a 28-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Broncos finished the season 7-10. They were 19-30 in 3 seasons with Fangio.
