David Culley is reportedly out in Houston as the NFL’s “Black Monday” extends further into the week.

The 66-year-old Sparta, Tennessee native was the first African-American Vanderbilt quarterback in school history. Culley has been in football coaching since 1978, getting his start as Austin Peay’s running backs coach. Culley coached wide receivers at Vanderbilt from 1979-81. He would later coach the same position at Texas A&M from 1991-93.

After his stint in College Station, Culley made the jump to coaching in the NFL. He was Tampa Bay’s wide receivers coach in 1994 and has remained in the pros since, bouncing around the league.

Houston was Culley’s first head coaching job. The Texans went 4-13 this season.
