Tyrann Mathieu is one of the shining NFL stars among former LSU players, and he returned to campus this week to discuss his career trajectory from Baton Rouge, and how current Tigers can follow in his steps.

Mathieu spoke to current players about coming to LSU being a dream come true, and he recalled that he wasn’t the tallest, the fastest or the strongest, but it was important for him to separate himself.

“In order for us to be the best of us, we need to surround ourselves with people that are going to take us there,” he said. “So when I say that, I mean, ‘How are we going to come together?’ Because that’s the only way we’re going to get to our next level. So every time I walk through those walls, and I’m going to work with Odell (Beckham) and I’m going to work with Jarvis Landry, the only way we’re going to get to our next level is if I push him to his. And that’s why we really play on Sundays now. Because of what we did when we was in this room.”

Mathieu encouraged the LSU players to be honest with themselves, and be a champion in life.
