After 3 seasons at Alabama, forward Juwan Gary will reportedly look at continuing his college basketball career elsewhere. Gary has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal, according to Matt Zenitz of On3.
This past season, Gary played in 29 games, making 16 starts. Per game, Gary averaged 3.4 rebounds and 6.5 points on 51.4% shooting from the floor. He was fourth on the team in blocks this season with 16.
A Columbia, South Carolina native and Gray Academy product, Gary was a 4-star recruit, ranked in the top-100 overall in the class of 2019 on the 247Sports Composite. Gary chose Alabama over 8 other scholarship offers, including Georgia and the hometown Gamecocks.
Gary has spent 3 seasons at Alabama. His career got off to a rough start as a preseason torn ACL sidelined him for the 2019-20 campaign. He took a redshirt for that season.
Entering the transfer portal does not bind Gary to transfer out of Alabama, but his scholarship is no longer guaranteed. Players occasionally withdraw from the portal and return to the team. Gary can potentially extend his college basketball career with the NCAA’s COVID waiver for the 2020-21 season.
