Florida’s home baseball stadium has a new name: Condron Ballpark. The new name was unveiled ahead of Friday night’s UF-Tennessee series opener, with Gator booster and former Florida pitcher Gary Condron throwing out the first pitch.

Condron has donated more than $30 million to Florida athletics, more than any other single donor. His latest gift that led to the renaming of Florida Ballpark was for $8 million. The founder of builders Conlan Company, Condron’s name is also on the Gator football team’s indoor practice facility, which opened in 2015.

Florida in-house writer Scott Carter shared how Condron became a Gator. He started his career at USF but transferred to UF in the early 1970s after realizing USF did not have an architecture program. He pitched for the Gators in fall ball but had a career-ending rotator cuff injury.

Florida Ballpark opened in 2021. The Gators won the park’s first game over rival Miami, but will likely start 0-1 at Condron Park. No. 1 Tennessee currently leads Florida 8-2 in the 8th inning. Friday night’s game is streaming on SEC Network+.
