Auburn rallies from early 4-run deficit for series win vs. Alabama

Early on in Saturday’s rivalry game, it appeared Auburn was in for a long afternoon. In the end, it was Alabama that watched a hot first frame fade in a loss to the Tigers.
Alabama opened out right out of the gate with a 4-run first inning. That was punctuated by a 3-run home run from William Hamiter. Unfortunately for the Tide, that is all the scoring they would get.
Auburn responded with 6 unanswered runs, all scored between the 4th and 7th innings of the game. Bobby Peirce had a pair of RBI, including a solo home run, but the real story of the game was on the mound.
After Trace Bright surrendered 4 runs in the first, the Tigers went directly to their bullpen. Three Auburn relievers combined for 8 innings of shutout ball with 7 strikeouts and just 2 hits allowed. Tommy Sheehan was the biggest contributor with 4 innings pitched with 4 strikeouts.

Auburn now has the series win after taking the first two games of the weekend. The Tigers will go for the 3-game sweep in Sunday’s finale.
