It may have taken a long time, but Florida softball is finally safely through unscathed into Sunday’s regional final.
Hosting the Gainesville Regional as the No. 14 seed, Florida opened the weekend with a 10-1 win over Canisius. That led to a Saturday afternoon matchup with Georgia Tech that would take a long time to decide.
Battling some inclement weather and multiple delays, the Gators opened quickly with a 2-run frame in the bottom of the 1st inning. Reagan Walsh provided those runs on a big RBI double to open the scoring.

Walsh would add an RBI single in the 3rd inning to lead the Gators with 3 RBI for the game. Kendra Falby, Skylar Wallace and Emily Wilkie also added RBI for Florida.
Georgia Tech would make things interesting in the 7th, loading the bases with 2 outs. Fortunately, Natalie Lugo slammed the door shut with a beautiful strikeout to end the game.
After finishing up a game with so many lengthy delays, getting into the regional final is a big deal for Florida. Now the Gators can get some rest and await their opponent for Sunday afternoon.
