Tennessee baseball – the top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and host of the Knoxville Regional – has a shot to advance to the regional final with a win over Campbell. Much of the story leading up to Saturday night’s game has been the status and availability of starting catcher Evan Russell.

Russell was absent from Friday’s regional opener due to illness but his absence was just the tip of the iceberg. ESPN broadcaster and former Arkansas outfielder Troy Eklund drew outrage after he shared unsubstantiated claims about Russell’s absence on the air. Eklund has since apologized for his remarks.

While Russell was cleared for action Saturday morning, he will not be back in the starting lineup for the game vs. Campbell. Instead, Charlie Taylor is getting the start behind the dish after he also started on Friday against Alabama State.

Taylor went 0-for-3 Friday but did manage an RBI in the win over Alabama State. We will have to wait and see if Russell sees any action off the bench against Campbell.
