Butch Jones lands extension as head coach at Arkansas State

Butch Jones took over as the head coach at Arkansas State in 2021, leading the Red Wolves to a 2-10 record.
But, the team is bringing in the Sun Belt’s best 2022 recruiting class, so the future is brighter in Jonesboro. And, now, to keep that recruiting momentum going, Arkansas State has signed Jones to a 1-year extension.
Per a release from the school, Jones’s contract now runs through the 2026 season:
“Coach Jones is completely changing the culture, discipline and overall organization of our football program, and we’re excited about the future under his guidance as head coach,” said ASU System President Dr. Chuck Welch. “He has a strong track record of success, and we have confidence in the process he is taking our football team through to attain a high level of success on a consistent basis.”
This sort of extension is common practice in college football, as it signals to recruits that the coach is signed to be at the school for their entire collegiate careers.
But, the quote above does signal that Jones has the support of the administration as Arkansas State heads into the 2022 season with higher expectations.
