Florida safety Mordecai McDaniel, a former 4-star recruit in the 2020 class, has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal, according to 247Sports.

McDaniel spent 2 seasons with the Gators before his transfer. McDaniel appeared in 23 games the last 2 seasons, including all 13 games at safety and special teams last season. McDaniel finished last season with 15 tackles (7 solo) and one interception. McDaniel made his first career start as a Gator at strong safety and tallied 6 tackles (3 solo) against FAU on Sept. 4.

A 4-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting class by 247Sports Composite ratings, McDaniel was the No. 28 cornerback in the class coming out Washington (D.C.) St. John’s College High. McDaniel chose the Gators over Notre Dame, Penn State and Tennessee, as he previously was committed to the Vols. During his freshman season in 2020, McDaniel played in 10 games and made 4 tackles.

McDaniel was one of 3 players who lost their scholarships recently, per 247Sports, including Fenley Graham and defensive lineman Chris Thomas. Other roster movement included the transfer last week of former Clemson RB Demarkcus Bowman from the Gators to UCF and coach Gus Malzahn.
