Karson Hobbs, a 6-foot-1 and 180-pound class of 2024 cornerback out of Cincinnati, Ohio (Archbishop Moeller), has announced a commitment to play in the SEC.

Hobbs, who has 5 offers, committed to South Carolina on Friday, as he became the Gamecocks second commitment of the 2024 class after QB Dante Reno. He does not yet have a 247Sports Composite rating, but his 247Sports rating is a 3-star, and he is ranked the No. 48 cornerback in the class, and the No. 27 player in the state of Ohio.

Hobbs, who first visited South Carolina in June, also lists offers from Akron, Kentucky, Marshall and West Virginia. Hobbs chose the Gamecocks largely because of his relationship with defensive backs coach Torrian Gray, The Big Spur reported.

“I felt like they just showed so much love,” Hobbs told 247Sports, before returning to Columbia on Friday. “It was kind of a no-brainer being like, yeah, go play in the SEC and get to play with the people you love to be around.”

Hobbs is aware of South Carolina’s history of producing impact defensive players.

“I had been seeing some of the corners that got drafted from there, and it was really like, OK, you see Stephon Gilmore, you see Jaycee Horn then when you add Jadeveon Clowney and all these good defensive guys. They’re all first-rounders and that’s where I want to be,” Hobbs said. “I know LSU is one of the DBUs, but South Carolina is DBU too, so I think with coach Gray being added, he’s been with guys like Kam Chancellor and Tre’Davious White. He’s been with everybody, so I think he’s the best DB coach in the nation right now, so going to play for him would just be one of the greatest things I could do.”
