Hines Ward is excited about his new job with the XFL, and shared his plans on social media for San Antonio’s new franchise in the XFL.

“It’s an honor to represent this city and we’re going to play with an edge and resilience you’d expect from the home of the Alamo,” Ward wrote on Twitter. Ward, 46, is a former Georgia star who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1998 to 2011. The XFL will kick off on February 18, 2023 — the weekend after next year’s Super Bowl — and be broadcast on ESPN.

Ward, who was recently the Florida Atlantic wide receivers coach, and interviewed for the head coaching vacancy with the Houston Texans. Ward previously worked as an offensive assistant on Adam Gase’s staff with the New York Jets, and as a Steelers intern during the 2017 training camp.

Along with being on “Dancing with the Stars,” Ward is most known for his stellar career with the Steelers where he caught 1,000 passes for 12,083 yards and 85 touchdowns with the Steelers during his 15-year playing career, which started as a 1998 NFL third round pick and included being named Super Bowl XL MVP.
