Chris Doering has questions to answer as fall camps open around the SEC, and the SEC Network analyst offered his perspective on the top 5 dilemmas across the league.

Doering believes the quarterback battles are the biggest storylines around the SEC. During a segment on “SEC Now,” Doering explained why that and other positions come to mind.

“In College Station, they’ve got to figure out how they can get more production out of the quarterback spot,” Doering said. “Because last year, did not have much of a threat of the passing game, had to rely on the running game a little bit more. They need development at the wide receiver position a little bit more, but can either Haynes King or Max Johnson become one of those quarterbacks that have followed in the footsteps of some of Jimbo Fisher’s good ones.”

Doering said he believes there’s a lot of talent around the quarterbacks, but they underachieve because of the lack of production.

The Missouri defense is the next choice, and Doering pointed out that the Tigers were at or near the bottom of every important statistical category.

“Can they be better,” he said. “They’ve gone out and gotten a lot of guys in the transfer portal for that side of the ball.”

Kentucky wide receivers is next on his list, and Doering said losing Wan’Dale Robinson is a big blow for the Wildcats as he made more than 100 catches.

The Ole Miss offense, between the loss of the quarterback and offensive coordinator, is key.

“I went to the Grove Bowl, I was not impressed with either Luke Altmyer or Jaxson Dart in that game,” he said. “Hopefully they can get some production there, and get one of those guys to kind of step forward.”

Finally, the Alabama wide receivers are also a question mark, especially trying to replace Jameson Williams and John Metchie.

“After Jameson Williams and John Metchie went down, they were way below average in that national championship game,” Doering said.

Alabama has added key transfers at that position from Georgia and Louisville in Jermaine Burton and Tyler Harrell, and JaCorey Brooks is another option.

“They’ve got to find a way for a No. 1 to kind of emerge from that group,” Doering said. “Last year at this time, who knew that it was going to be Jameson Williams.”
