Quarterback competitions are an annual storyline across college football, and the SEC has several intriguing battles this preseason.

Among the competitions that stand out to 247Sports in its ranking of the top 10 battles in the country are Ole Miss, LSU, Texas A&M, Auburn and Florida. Interesting, former Auburn QB Bo Nix is also on the list as Oregon checks in at the No. 9 battle.

  • 2. JAXSON DART VS. LUKE ALTMYER – OLE MISS
  • 4. MYLES BRENNAN VS. JAYDEN DANIELS VS. GARRETT NUSSMEIER – LSU
  • 6. MAX JOHNSON VS. HAYNES KING – TEXAS A&M
  • 7. ZACH CALZADA VS. TJ FINLEY – AUBURN
  • 10. ANTHONY RICHARDSON VS. JACK MILLER – FLORIDA

Perhaps the most intriguing around the SEC are the top 4 battles since it appears Richardson is most likely to be the starter in Gainesville.

At Ole Miss, 247Sports noted that Altmyer played in place of an injured Matt Corral recently, but with the latter departing for the NFL, it’ll be Dart of Altmyer piloting Lane Kiffin’s offense. However, Dart reportedly struggled earlier this offseason so it might be the Ole Miss vet in the lead.

At LSU, Kosko wrote that Daniels comes in after a surprise transfer from Arizona State earlier this offseason. Daniels might be the better quarterback when it’s all said and done, but he hasn’t been able to clearly beat out Brennan throughout the summer. Fall camp will tell the story for Brian Kelly’s first quarterback with the Tigers. The decision could make or break the season in a loaded SEC West in 2022.

For the Aggies, Texas A&M and Jimbo Fisher need to get this decision right if the Aggies expect to compete for a division title and a conference title overall this season. This looked like it was going to be King’s job after Zach Calzada left for Auburn, but here comes the experienced Johnson.

At Auburn, Kosko wrote that Bryan Harsin has to push the right buttons to get the right quarterback in 2022 after a disastrous end to last season.
