Former Florida running back Dameon Pierce appears to be having a great first NFL training camp. A report out of Houston has Pierce as the Texans’ top running back.

After 4 seasons at Florida, Pierce was selected No. 107 overall in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Pierce finished his UF career appearing in 50 games, rushing 329 times for 1,806 yards and 23 touchdowns to go with 45 catches for 422 yards and 5 scores.

Former Florida coach Dan Mullen was widely criticized by fans for his use of Pierce over the past 2 seasons. Mullen used a 3-man rotation at running back of Pierce, Malik Davis and Nay’Quan Wright in 2020 and ’21. Pierce recorded double-digit carries only twice in 2021, against FSU (12) and UCF (13). Greg Knox, the running backs coach, was the interim coach for those games after Mullen was fired.

Pierce logged 100 carries for 574 yards and 13 touchdowns in his senior season. He also had 19 catches for 216 yards and 3 TDs.
