It was a happy Sunday for Lamont Paris and the South Carolina men’s basketball program.

Gamecocks basketball received big news when forward Collin Murray-Boyles verbally committed to play for the program after taking an official visit to the school.

Murray-Boyles is a 3-star prospect in the class of 2023. He is currently playing for Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah. Murray-Boyles, listed at 6-7, 200 pounds, chose South Carolina over offers from SMU, Coastal Carolina and St. Bonaventure according to a story on 247Sports.com.

Murray-Boyles is originally from South Carolina and told 247Sports.com that returning to his home state was an appealing option.

“I really felt like it’s a place I can thrive,” Murray-Boyles said. “It’s in my backyard, I’m from here so I already know the culture of USC so knowing that and knowing how coach Paris coaches, it makes it all better.”

Murray-Boyles is the first commitment for the Gamecocks in the 2023 recruiting class.
