Southern Cal has offered its side of the story in Bru McCoy’s eligibility case as the wide receiver tries to get on the field to start the season.

Tennessee coach Josh Heupel has said the school’s administration and athletics department “has done everything that they possibly can” to resolve McCoy’s situation. Part of McCoy’s transfer story includes a move to Texas in the spring of 2019 before he transferred back to the Trojans.

“At no point since Bru entered the transfer portal in January have we objected to him being made immediately eligible at Tennessee,” USC’s statement reads. “The issue of Bru’s eligibility ultimately rests with the NCAA, and we wish him the very best.”

“There are some things that are out of my control and Bru’s control and our administration’s control in this process,” Heupel said. “Everybody on our side is working as hard as they possibly can to make sure we come to a resolution as quickly as possible and give the kid an opportunity to go play.”

McCoy had several legal developments throughout his time at USC, including a domestic incident with his girlfriend, and he was later barred from campus during a Title IX investigation.

McCoy played the 2020 season at USC, and made 21 receptions for 236 yards and two touchdowns in 2020.
