Kentucky basketball is in serious trouble.
The Wildcats, the No. 4 AP preseason team, dropped a rough contest to Georgia in Athens Saturday, 75-68. That’s Kentucky’s 2nd straight loss and, according to Joe Lunardi, drops them from the projected tournament field were the season to end today.
Thankfully for the Wildcats there’s still plenty of basketball to be played, but they’ll have to truly earn their spot in the field come March. Kentucky still has battles against Tennessee, Auburn, Florida and a rejuvenated Arkansas squad to get past. Drop more than 1 of those and they’re likely out for the count.
Kentucky fans have been frustrated all year: with players, with head coach John Calipari and with the fact that this team is considerably more talented than their record would let on (16-9, 7-5 SEC). 5-star talents, the reigning National Player of the Year, and yet here we are.
Fans and media let loose their frustrations with the Wildcats following the ugly loss.
Kentucky has all those five-stars and an Illinois State transfer is the only guy who can put the ball in the basket.

Never thought I’d say this in my lifetime of being a Kentucky fan, but I cannot wait for football season.

Kentucky just lost to a Georgia team that had dropped 6 of its last 7 games, was ranked 129th in the NET and entered the game 4-7 in SEC play.
The Wildcats are now unofficially on the wrong side of The Bubble.

Kentucky is playing like a team that will be sitting at home once the NCAA Tournament begins.

Georgia 75, Kentucky 68.
Wildcats are not an NCAA Tournament team heading out of this weekend.
John Calipari’s team does not have the résumé to validate inclusion in forecasts as of now.
Entered the season in the top five in preseason polls.
