Former Florida DB CJ Gardner-Johnson fined by NFL for hit in Super Bowl

Former Florida DB Chauncey “C.J.” Gardner-Johnson’s Philadelphia Eagles came out on the losing end of Super Bowl LVII against the Kansas City Chiefs. The loss now stings even more for Gardner-Johnson, as he is being fined for a hit he made during the game.

Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reports Gardner-Johnson has been fined $14,111 for lowering his head to initiate contact. Gardner-Johnson’s agent indicated they plan to appeal the fine for the hit that was not flagged during the game.

The NFL fined #Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson $14,111 for lowering the head to initiate contact with the helmet on a fourth-quarter play in Super Bowl LVII, per source.

No flag was thrown. CGJ’s agent, Kevin Conner of @UniSportsMgmt, confirmed the fine and said he’ll appeal.

Gardner-Johnson is entering his fifth NFL season in 2023. After spending his first 3 seasons with the New Orleans Saints, he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles on Aug. 30, 2022.
