Ole Miss fired head coach Kermit Davis in late February after a rough 5 years at the helm of the Rebels program. The Rebels started their search for a new HC soon after and are reported to have seen a candidate emerging as of late.

That candidate is former Texas head coach Chris Beard, who was fired from the Longhorns program during the regular season after being alleged of domestic assault.

According to Pete Thamel and Jeff Borzello, Ole Miss and Beard have spoken and are “in the process of doing due diligence” to potentially hire him.

Chris Beard to Oxford?

The “due diligence” line in the above Tweet says a lot.

Charges towards Beard were dropped, but Texas still chose to fire Beard after just 1 and a half seasons in Austin. However, in a short amount of time Beard proved a lot, combined with his prior time at Texas Tech.

Beard took the Red Raiders to the Elite 8 in 2018 and to the national title game in 2019. He has also proven to be a strong recruiter, not to mention a winner as a head coach. Beard, on top of his impressive success in March, has yet to have a losing season as a head coach in Division I college basketball.

It would certainly be a strong hire for the Rebels if the “due diligence” process goes smoothly.
