Greg McElroy said he’s very excited for spring football at Alabama in part because the sense of urgency should be at an all-time high.

McElroy reiterated that he thinks Nick Saban made excellent coordinator hires this offseason.

“I would say this is one of the most important springs of the Nick Saban tenure,” McElroy said. “To get back to running the football, to get back to creating an edge along the line of scrimmage and to identify players on defense that could potentially take over the game.”

McElroy said he still believes Alabama is the favorite to win the SEC West. While there are tricky games, such as Texas A&M, Tennessee and LSU, McElroy said he believes Alabama will be favored in every single regular season matchup.

“They should be in a position to get to Atlanta again and take their chances against what should be an elite Georgia team, and in order to win a national championship and College Football Playoff, they’ve got to beat them,” McElroy said.

With new-found emphasis on the line of scrimmage, and to create balance on offense, McElroy said he’s anxious to see how those changes play out.
