BJ Mack, one of the more interesting prospects in the transfer portal, revealed his top 5 list Tuesday afternoon. The list was almost entirely made up of SEC programs, including South Carolina, Alabama, LSU and Arkansas. Iowa made the cut for Mack as well.

Mack, who stands at 6-8, 245 pounds, has 1 remaining season of edibility in college basketball, taking advantage of an additional year granted by the Covid-19 eligibility ruling. He played his freshman season at South Florida before transferring and starring 3 seasons at Wofford.

Mack is an elite scorer  and every level and a strong rebounder with his size, averaging 16.1 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Terriers last season.

Where is the best fit for Mack?

Mack perhaps fits Matt McMahon’s offense best with an emphasis on getting to the free throw line (Mack was one of Wofford’s top free throw shooters last season), but Alabama is not a team to take lightly here as well.

The Crimson Tide are going to be without a strong portion of their team from this past season, and Mack could make an immediate impact. Perhaps most importantly for Nate Oats and Co. Mack can spread the floor with a 34% hit rate from range on 147 total 3-pointers attempted.

There’s always a geography angle to keep in mind, too. South Carolina/Columbia would keep the Wofford transfer in the Palmetto State, just a few hours from where he grew up in Charlotte.

He is slated to visit all the above teams in the coming weeks.
