Auburn starter Robenson Therezie, the team leader in interceptions last year, is in jeopardy of missing Auburn’s season-opener against Arkansas, this according to an AL.com report filed Thursday afternoon.

During Ellis Johnson’s press conference Thursday, the defensive coordinator started talking about the depth behind Justin Garrett, who backed up Therezie last year at the hybrid/star position.

“We’re a little nervous about our depth behind Justin,” Johnson said. “With Therezie right now, we’re not sure he’s going to be able to play early.”

Asked to clarify the reasons for Therezie’s lack of availability, Johnson did not say the senior was injured, as he normally would, saying only that Therezie has not gotten a lot of practice reps so far in the first two weeks of training camp.

“He just hasn’t had a lot of reps, a lot of practice reps, getting Justin ready,” Johnson said. “Right now, we’ve got to get some depth out there.”

Garrett was tabbed the starter in fall camp last year but a foot sprain a couple of weeks before the season-opener against Washington State thrusted Therezie into the starting line up. Therezie couldn’t have performed better against the Cougars, hauling in two interceptions. With Garrett healed in week three, Therezie continued to start. To add insult to injury, the week of the Ole Miss game, Garrett broke his foot in practice. It was later discovered that Garrett has flat feet. He currently wears special insoles and custom cleats. Garrett was originally recruited as a linebacker for Auburn and played there as a reserve in 2012.

Therezie, a Miami native, finished 2013 with four interceptions and was sixth on the team in tackles. He was recognized as a member of the AP All-SEC honorable mention team. Therezie is on the Bednarik watch list for the upcoming season.
