Frank Broyles

Frank Broyles has more wins than any head coach in the history of the Arkansas Razorbacks football program, posting a record of 144-58-5 in 19 seasons as Arkansas’ head coach from 1958-1976. His teams won seven Southwest Conference titles and his 1964 squad went 11-0 on its way to a national championship. Broyles was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1983.

Eleven of Broyles’ 19 teams at Arkansas finished the season ranked in the final Associated Press poll, and his teams were 4-6 in 10 bowl appearances during his stay in Fayetteville. More than 30 of Broyles’ former players went on to coach at the college or pro level, including Barry Switzer, Johnny Majors, Joe Gibbs, Hayden Fry and Jimmy Johnson. His former players and assistants have combined to win five college national championships, six Super Bowls and more than 40 conference titles.

Broyles also served as athletic director at Arkansas for 33 years from 1974-2007 and had the Broyles Award named after him. The award is given to the top assistant coach in college football each year, an honor meant to represent Broyles’ ability to groom assistant coaches to become successful head coaches further along in their careers.
