Ralph Sasse coached at Army and Mississippi State in the 1920’s and 30’s, spending three seasons as the head coach at MSU from 1935-1937. Sasse was an assistant at Army in the late-20’s and took over as head coach in 1930. In three seasons as head coach at Army Sasse was an impressive 25-5-2, never winning fewer than eight games in a season. He returned to coaching in 1935 when he took the Mississippi State job, and in three seasons with the Bulldogs he was a combined 20-10-2. Sasse led MSU to the 1936 Orange Bowl, losing in his only bowl appearances as a head coach. He retired from coaching in 1937 with a career record of 45-15-4. Sasse passed away in 1954 at the age of 65.
