Earl Abell coached college football for 14 seasons from 1917-1930, including two seasons as head coach at Mississippi A&M (a.k.a. Mississippi State) from 1923-1924. Abell posted back-to-back winning seasons while coaching the Bulldogs, finishing 5-2-2 in 1923 and 5-4 in 1924. For his career, Abell was 38-34-6 as a head coach at five different schools. He was an All-American during his playing days at Colgate and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1973. Abell passed away in 1956 at the age of 63.
