After a tight win over the Florida Gators, two LSU players were honored by the SEC for their outstanding efforts. Running back Leonard Fournette was named co-Freshman of the Week, while offensive guard Vadal Alexander won Lineman of the Week.

Fournette, making his first career start, rushed for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns in the 30-27 win. He did most of his work between the tackles, but also pulled off an impressive spin move and broke off a few cutback moves to earn extra yards. Fournette shared the honors with Georgia running back Nick Chubb, who started in place of Todd Gurley for the Bulldogs.

Alexander put together what LSU coach Les Miles called his most complete effort of the season, helping to lead the way for a rushing attack that picked up 195 yards. According to a release from LSU’s sports information department, Alexander played all 73 offensive snaps for the Tigers and was credited with 11 knockdown blocks.

The awards were the first Player of the Week honors for both Fournette and Alexander. Quarterback Brandon Harris had previously been honored as Freshman of the Week for his efforts against New Mexico State.
