Unfortunately, ESPN didn’t roll out an SEC version of NFL RedZone for the conference’s new network. It would’ve fit well on the alternate channel and would’ve rocked this season. Instead, we kept track of red zone stats for you each week.

OFFENSIVE RED ZONE STATISTICS

SEC East champ Missouri closed the regular season with the SEC’s best red zone offense, scoring on 92 percent of its trips inside opponents’ 20 yard lines this season. However, its red zone scoring rate actually dropped following last week’s win over Arkansas, as the Tigers scored on just two of three red zone trips against the Razorbacks.

Kentucky made the greatest leap in red zone scoring, putting up points on all five of its red zone trips in Saturday’s 44-40 loss to in-state rival Louisville. Georgia experienced the greatest drop in red zone scoring, only putting up points on just three of six red zone trips in an overtime loss to Georgia Tech. The Dawgs fumbled twice inside the Yellow Jackets 5 yard line in the loss.

Despite beating both Alabama and Mississippi State this season, the Ole Miss Rebels closed the year with the SEC’s worst red zone offense, only scoring on 28 of 39 red zone trips this season. The Rebels were 2 of 3 in the red zone in last Saturday’s Egg Bowl showdown with MSU.

Georgia led all SEC teams with 64 trips into the red zone this season, while Vanderbilt held up the rear with just 26 red zone possessions this season. The Commodores also posted the worst red zone touchdown rate in the conference, getting into the end zone on just 14 of those 26 possessions. Texas A&M had the best touchdown rate at 68.2 percent, scoring touchdowns on 30 of 44 red zone possessions in 2014.

DEFENSIVE RED ZONE STATISTICS

Mississippi State closed the 2014 season with the nation’s best red zone defense, allowing points on just 24 of 40 opponent red zone possessions. However, the Bulldogs allowed the fifth-most red zone possessions of any team in the SEC and allowed more explosive plays than any other team in the conference.

MSU also limited opponents to the worst red zone touchdown rate of any team in the SEC, however Alabama allowed the fewest red zone touchdowns in the conference with just 14. The Tide allowed Auburn to score on 7 of 8 red zone trips in Saturday’s Iron Bowl, including two touchdowns.

Tennessee had the worst red zone defense in the SEC this season, allowing opponents to score on 29 of 30 red zone possessions in 2014. But the Vols also allowed the second fewest red zone possessions of any team in the SEC behind only LSU, which allowed just 27 in 12 games.

Ole Miss closed the season with the nation’s No. 1 scoring defense, and it ended 2014 with the SEC’s third-best red zone defense. The Rebels allowed opponents to score on 23 of 32 red zone possessions, but allowed touchdowns on just 12 of those 32 possessions. No team in the conference was stingier than Ole Miss when it came to allowing touchdowns in the red zone.

South Carolina and Vanderbilt each allowed 34 touchdowns in the red zone this season, the most given up by any team in the SEC in 2014.
