Aaron Murray questions Alabama’s talent around Bryce Young ahead of 2022 season

Aaron Murray watched Alabama’s spring game on Saturday, and he came away with some questions.

The biggest question he had concerned Alabama’s offensive playmakers surrounding QB Bryce Young, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner.

During an appearance on “SEC This Morning” on SiriusXM on Tuesday, Murray said he questions whether Alabama’s offense can be as explosive as in years past with Jermaine Burton as the No. 1 receiver:

“Can they find some playmakers around Bryce Young is what we need to figure out,” he said. “Who is going to be the guy who can take some pressure off of him? Who can take a bubble, who can take a quick slant and take it for a big play down the field? Those are the issues that are going to have to continue to be answered this offseason. Obviously Burton, the transfer from Georgia who went to Alabama, has been by all accounts the most consistent receiver at Alabama this year. I think he’s a very good player. I think he’s a smart player. He’s a guy you can move around.

“I don’t know if he has that consistent playmaking ability we’re used to seeing that Alabama receivers have had the past few years. If Burton is your No. 1 receiver this season for Alabama, this will not be anywhere close to the explosive offense that we have seen the past 2-3 years from Alabama. It won’t. If Burton is your No. 1 guy, it will be a very good offense. But it will not be the explosive offense that we are used to seeing Alabama have over the past 2-3 years.”

Will RB Jahmyr Gibbs, TE Cam Latu and some of Alabama’s younger receivers step up? Or will Murray’s concerns prove to be accurate? We’ll see how the Crimson Tide offense looks when fall camp begins in a few months.
