Alabama pays tribute to Cecil Hurt, late Crimson Tide writer

Alabama will make sure that Cecil Hurt will never be forgotten. The press box at Bryant-Denny Stadium will have a plaque honoring Hurt.
The longtime columnist and sports editor for the Tuscaloosa News passed away from complications with pneumonia at the age of 62.

Cecil built a lasting legacy in his 41 years covering the Crimson Tide. He will forever be missed but never forgotten.

Hurt had the respect of Crimson Tide fans, fans of college sports and fans of good newspaper writing in general. They all quickly voiced their approval of the dedication.

Can't begin to put into words how much I miss Cecil. Only knew him very casually personally but, like ever other football fan in the South, all you had to do was read one column and his gift for turning a phrase and capturing a moment had you hooked. RIP (and Slim Charles)

Hurt graduated from the University of Alabama in 1981 and started working for the Tuscaloosa News in 1982. He won many awards in the industry and shared a Pulitzer Prize with his co-workers at the paper for their coverage on the tornadoes that came through Tuscaloosa in 2011.
