The Alabama Crimson Tide radio broadcast booth took a big hit this offseason when color analyst Phil Savage left to take a position as a general manager in the new Alliance of American Football.

However, play-by-play guy Eli Gold will be back for another year this fall, and he doesn’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon.

Gold is under contract until 2023 and told AL.com he might continue calling games even beyond that:

“I still think I’m on top of my game,” Gold said, “and I’m just going to keep on trucking for a long time, hopefully.”

Gold is 64 and just had eye surgery to correct his vision, so he should be at the top of his game entering the 2018 season and beyond.

However, he’ll still miss working with Savage, and we’ll have to see who replaces the longtime analyst in the Crimson Tide booth.
