ESPN’s Football Power Index predicts the outcome of every college football game every week. After a wild Week 6 slate, the model has released its predictions for the Week 7 lineup.
Included in the Week 7 predictions is the South Carolina-Alabama game. With Alabama suffering a huge upset loss at Vanderbilt in Week 6, the model sees the team easily winning in Week 7.
The FPI gives the Tide a 91.1% chance to defeat the Gamecocks, meaning the Gamecocks have just an 8.9% chance to pull off the upset.
Unfortunately for the Gamecocks, the Tide will likely be taking out their anger from Week 6’s loss in this game. The Tide are sitting at 4-1 overall with a 1-1 record in the SEC. Making quick work of the Gamecocks will ensure that the team is still right in the thick of things in the conference race.
Additionally, the Tide have several tough games remaining on their schedule, so every win will matter.
On the other hand, the Gamecocks would love nothing more than to give the Tide another conference loss. The Gamecocks struggled to get anything going against Ole Miss in Week 6 and now sit at 3-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Gamecocks dominated Kentucky earlier this season and then narrowly lost to LSU. Unfortunately, things don’t get much easier for the Gamecocks as the team still has games against Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Missouri, and Clemson.
Alabama and South Carolina have played 15 times, with the Tide winning 11 of those matchups. The teams last played in 2019 when Alabama won 47-23.
These conference rivals will kick off from Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday at Noon ET.
