Alabama’s Mac Jones was named the winner of the 2020 Davey O’Brien Award on Thursday, given to the best quarterback in the NCAA. He is the first quarterback to win it in program history.

Jones has enjoyed a sensational year behind center for the Crimson Tide in his first full season starting in place of Tua Tagovailoa. Through 12 games, he has recorded 4,036 yards and 36 touchdowns, with his 77 percent completion rate setting a new NCAA record. Just 4 of his 357 pass attempts have been picked off.

Jones has 6 games of 385 or more yards this season, including 4 400-plus yard games. He has 7 games with 4 or more passing touchdowns, with 5-touchdown games against Florida in the SEC Championship and against Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

Against Notre Dame in the Rose Bowl Game semifinal at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Tex., he threw for 4 touchdowns and 297 yards, while completing 25 of 30 of his passes.

Jones will now have his eyes set on capping his junior year with a national championship as he and the Tide will take on Ohio State on Monday at Hard Rock Stadium.
