Mark Ingram may not have had a great 2020 season, but he’s optimistic that he isn’t done playing at a high level just yet.
In his second season with the Baltimore Ravens, Ingram was limited to 11 games due to injury. But even once he was healthy, he didn’t have a large role for the team, as they opted to play rookie J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards at running back. Ingram rushed for a career-low 299 yards and two touchdowns.
That came only a year after Ingram had ran for 1,018 yards and 10 touchdowns in 15 games in his first season in Baltimore. He was released by the Ravens after they lost in the AFC Divisional Round to the Buffalo Bills.
However, Ingram is still confident that he can make an impact for an NFL team. He shared that sentiment during an appearance on NBC Sports’ “Chris Simms Unbuttoned” on Tuesday.
“Obviously, my role wasn’t what I wanted,” Ingram told Simms. “But the good thing about it is I’m healthy, I’m fresh, I know I can still play this game at a high, high level for a long time, so I’m excited about my new opportunity to be with a team, whatever my new team may be.
“I’m excited about the opportunity, and they’re going to be getting a good player that’s motivated, that’s hungry and that still has a lot of great football left. I got a lot of run left in these young legs, so I’m excited about the future.”
Ingram, 31, is a 10-year NFL veteran, having spent his first eight seasons with the New Orleans Saints. Before that, he played for three years at Alabama from 2008-10, winning the Heisman Trophy as a sophomore for the Crimson Tide in 2009.
