The 2016 season was expected to be a breakout one for Alabama receiver Robert Foster, but it ultimately became one of frustration.

Foster was the team’s leading receiver after two games during his sophomore season, but a shoulder injury put an abrupt end to his 2015 campaign. Fully healthy, the speedy Foster had plenty of buzz heading into last fall, but he slipped down the depth chart and caught only five passes for 45 yards.

Due to his inability to see the field consistently, many believed Foster, a former 5-star prospect, might leave the program and try to find his footing elsewhere. That’s why it came as a bit of a surprise when Foster was one of the players mentioned by Nick Saban after Alabama’s spring scrimmage on Saturday.

“Robert did a much better job today,” Saban told reporters after the scrimmage. “He was very engaged out there and made some plays… Robert Foster was good.”

At the beginning of his press conference, Saban praised the offense’s explosiveness, which is an area where Foster could make a direct impact for the Tide.

“I thought we were much more effective passing the football,” Saban said. “(We had) a lot of big plays, a lot of explosive plays throwing the ball, especially with play-action passes.”

Foster contributed with three catches on Saturday afternoon, but his speed is enough to make him a dangerous part of Alabama’s receiving corps. With ArDarius Stewart moving on to the NFL, Foster could be a candidate to help replace his production.
