Trevon Diggs injury update: Dallas Cowboys confirm serious injury to former Alabama playe
Trevon Diggs has suffered a torn ACL in his left knee, the Dallas Cowboys confirmed Thursday afternoon. The injury will sideline the former Alabama cornerback for the rest of the season.
Diggs left practice Thursday with a knee injury and was later seen on crutches. Dallas released a statement shortly after:
“Cornerback Trevon Diggs suffered a left knee injury during today’s practice. A subsequent MRI was performed that confirmed a torn ACL. A timetable for Diggs’ return to play has not been established, but he is currently projected to miss the remainder of the current season.”
The injury is a serious blow to the Dallas secondary. Diggs has been outstanding to open the 2023 campaign.
Through 2 games so far this season, Diggs was allowing just a 1.0 QBR to opposing quarterbacks on passes thrown his way, per the Cowboys. In total, he allowed 26 yards on just two receptions. He also posted an interception and three pass breakups through two games.
The ESPN Stats & Info account on Twitter shared just how devastating the injury is to the Dallas defense. No defensive back has been better at their job than Diggs over the last three seasons:
Trevon Diggs injury is a huge loss for the Cowboys secondary.
Over the last 3 seasons, no DB has held opposing QBs to a lower passer rating as the nearest defender in coverage according to @NextGenStats (min. 100 targets). Diggs' 15 Int are the most in the NFL over that span. pic.twitter.com/GYxpMYYrDi

Diggs has 18 career interceptions in 47 games and recently signed a five-year, $97 million extension in July to remain with the Cowboys through 2028.
