Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, college baseball players only got a handful of games in before the rest of the season was canceled.
Still, the Baltimore Orioles were clearly impressed with Heston Kjerstad, an outfielder from Arkansas. In Round 1 of the 2020 MLB Draft on Wednesday night, the Orioles took Kjerstad with the No. 2 overall pick, making him the first SEC player off the board.
In his last full season (2019), Kjerstad showed off his powerful left-handed bat. In 65 games, he had 87 hits, 17 home runs, 51 RBI, 5 stolen bases and a .327 batting average.
Here’s a look at some highlights from Kjerstad, showing off his talent at the plate:
Baltimore went 54-108 in 2019, which was the second-worst record in baseball, better than only the Detroit Tigers.
