Chad Morris suggests more freshmen will play for Arkansas down the stretch
Chad Morris will try to make the most out of what’s ultimately a lost season for Arkansas.
The first-year Razorbacks coach said during Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference that he intends to play more freshmen over the final three games of the year. Arkansas sits at 2-7 with no SEC wins and almost no chance of making a bowl, so Morris wants some of his younger players to gain experience by taking advantage of the new rule that allows them to appear in up to four games without burning their redshirt.
After taking a bye week, the Razorbacks will return to action against No. 3 LSU at a time to be determined Nov. 10. Below is everything Morris said during his portion of the teleconference, including injury updates on a few key players.
On helicopter recruiting:
- I’ve used it numerous times. It allows you to get in to the smaller areas and schools, cut down on drive time. And the appearance of it, being different, recruiting is about having an edge. An aviation company out of Little Rock, it’s the same as using a plane to get around the state.
On who is on board on the team:
- I just think the biggest thing was being disappointed in our performance. We’ve seen improvement, but that wasn’t the case on Saturday. We weren’t on the same track of improvement that we have been on, and that’s what’s been disappointing.
Do you plan on playing more freshmen moving forward?
- We have some guys that have one or two games in them that we would like to get out there to get some experience. We anticipate them getting out there.
On LB Dre Greenlaw’s status with his injury:
- He has not practiced this week. We anticipate him returning next week.
Any chance RB Devwah Whaley and TE Jeremy Patton are back for the LSU game?
- Well, we think with Devwah, he is still questionable. He ran a little yesterday. We will see how he progresses.
More on the helicopter, do you plan on taking it out again:
- We only broke it out once since I’ve been here. Probably will more once the playoffs get started.
