Sam Pittman has reportedly hired UCF assistant to join his Arkansas coaching staff
Sam Pittman has teased that some of the coaches he has targeted to join his Arkansas staff would already be on staff in Fayetteville if not for their obligations to finish out the season and coach their current team during bowl season. It appears the new Razorbacks’ tight ends coach fits into that category.
According to FootballScoop, Arkansas is planning on hiring UCF tight ends coach Jon Cooper. Cooper’s UCF team finishes up their season Monday night in the Gasparilla Bowl against Marshall. That game can be seen on ESPN at 2:30 p.m.
Cooper has been on staff in Orlando for two seasons coaching tight ends. He previously worked with Barry Odom at Missouri, serving as an offensive analyst. When former Missouri offensive coordinator Josh Heupel was hired as the head coach at UCF, he brought Cooper with him to Orlando.
Cooper played on the offensive line at Oklahoma and was named Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2008 when he was a blocker for Sooner Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford. After leaving Oklahoma, Cooper played four seasons in the NFL.
