When Auburn coach Gus Malzahn decided to remain with the Tigers, the Arkansas Razorbacks were expected to move on to Memphis coach Mike Norvell and SMU coach Chad Morris as their new top targets.
However, now the Hogs will have to take Norvell off their list, as the Memphis coach signed an extension with the Tigers on Tuesday.
Norvell announced the news on Twitter, thanking Memphis president Tom Bowen and the school’s board of trustees for the opportunity to remain with the university:
So excited about the future of Memphis Tiger football and to announce that I have signed an extension to continue to lead this great program! Thank you to @UofMemphisPres Tom Bowen and Board of Trustees for allowing me the opportunity #StripeEmUp #TigerFam #CLIMB #Grateful pic.twitter.com/vE7YLf0DuG

That’s a good move for Memphis, as the Tigers are 10-2 this year, with both of their losses coming against an undefeated UCF team.
As the Tigers prepare to take on Iowa State in the Liberty Bowl, they’ll be poised to have another strong year in 2018 now that Norvell has committed to staying with the program.
He’ll likely hear his name in rumors again next year, but for now, he’s Memphis’s coach. Meanwhile, the Arkansas search continues.
