Published:

The Nebraska Cornhuskers fired AD Shawn Eichorst on Sept. 21 and have been looking for someone to replace him ever since.

On Sunday, Omaha.com writer Lee Barfknecht released a list of candidates he believes are in the mix to land the job.

Among those named on the list is Arkansas AD Jeff Long — in fact, Long was the first name mentioned. According to Barfknecht, Long, who has been with the Razorbacks for nine years, would be a good fit in Big Ten country:

Why would Long fit? He knows the Big Ten, he’s a football guy — he was the first chairman of the College Football Playoff committee — and after nine years at Arkansas, he might be ready for one more move.

Nebraska may be able to offer Long more money than he’s making in Fayetteville, but it remains to be seen if that’s enough for him to jump ship.

Kentucky AD Mitch Barnhart was also listed as a potential candidate.

UPDATE: It appears Nebraska has gone with a Pac-12 candidate, reportedly hiring former Washington State AD Bill Moos to fill the position:
