It appears Auburn now has another coaching rumor to deal with as the team marches closer to winning the SEC Championship.

Head coach Gus Malzahn’s name has been mentioned with the opening at Arkansas, the former Razorback coordinator is currently the betting favorite to land the job in Fayetteville, and now offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey is gaining some steam for the opening job at South Alabama.

Coming off a fantastic gameplan over top-ranked Alabama, Lindsey’s stock may have reached an all-time high in his first season as Auburn’s OC. Lindsey has a background as a high school coach in Alabama, which would obviously help his recruiting efforts should he land at South Alabama.

According to Dan Wolken of USA TODAY, the school has ‘interest’ in Lindsey, but the search process doesn’t appear to be anywhere near completion.

Auburn finished the regular season ranked third in the SEC in scoring as the Tigers average 36.7 points per game. The Tigers also finished No. 2 in total offense with an average of 470.3 yards per contest.
