Auburn will be without running back Damari Alston for the foreseeable future.
Alston left the Texas A&M game in the 1st half with an injury. Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze revealed the injury is a dislocated shoulder. Freeze did not have a timetable for return, but indicated that it will be a lengthy absence.
“Damari will be out for a period of time, for sure,” Freeze said in his Monday press conference. “They’re doing some more tests for that, but he has a dislocated shoulder.”
An Atlanta native, Alston is in his second season with the Tigers. He played in 12 games as a freshman, logging 14 carries for 85 yards, along with a 13-yard reception.
This season, Alston has rushed 26 times for 131 yards. He scored his first-career touchdown in Auburn’s season-opening win over UMass. Alston followed that up with a career-high 51 rushing yards in AU’s Week 2 victory at Cal. He had 2 carries for 12 yards before leaving the Texas A&M game.
Alston was averaging 5 yards per carry. Jarquez Hunter currently leads Auburn in carries per game (10.33), yards per game (47.67) and total rushing yards (143). Brian Battle is averaging 5.32 yards per carry (22 rushes, 117 yards).
Auburn hosts No. 1 Georgia on Saturday. The game is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
