Clemson has decided to bring a pair of former long-time SEC assistants to Dabo Swinney’s staff. And one of them will have some familiar faces on the other sideline when the Tigers open with Georgia to begin the 2024 season.
Former Georgia offensive line coach Matt Luke is replacing Thomas Austin, who was fired by Swinney last week. Chris Rumph is taking over for Lemanski Hall, who was also let go last week, to coach the defensive ends.
Luke left Georgia after the 2021 season to spend more time with his family. He was previously an assistant at Ole Miss, Tennessee and Duke, prior to leading the Rebels program in 2017. He spent 3 seasons as the head coach at Ole Miss, and went 15-21.
Rumph previously coached defensive ends at Clemson from 2006, and most recently was in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings for 4 seasons. He’s also coached in college at Alabama, Texas, Florida and Tennessee.
Rumph, who is a South Carolina native, won a pair of national titles while coaching Alabama’s defensive line.
