Earle C. Hayes began his coaching career as the head coach of the Mississippi A&M football program (a.k.a. Mississippi State) for three seasons from 1914-1916. He registered two winning seasons in Starkville, and left the football program after the 1916 season with a combined record of 15-8-2. Hayes also coached Mississippi A&M’s basketball program from 1911-1924, and coached football, basketball and track at Indiana University later in his career. He passed away in 1943 at the age of 58.
