Fred Furman coached the Mississippi A&M football program (a.k.a. Mississippi State) for two seasons in 1907 and 1908, posting a 9-7 career record in that time. His team ’07 squad finished the season with a 6-3 record, his only winning season as a head coach. A&M was just 3-4 in 1908 before Furman left the college coaching ranks for good. He passed away in 1938 at the age of 57.
A former newspaper reporter who has roamed the southeastern United States for years covering football and eating way too many barbecue ribs, if there is such a thing.
