Fred Thomsen was the head football coach at the University of Arkansas for 13 seasons from 1929-1941. He twice finished first in the Southwestern Conference and his 1936 team was awarded the conference championship. His teams twice finished ranked in the final Associated Press poll and he reached one bowl game while with the Razorbacks. Thomsen’s overall record at Arkansas 56-61-10. He passed away in 1986 at the age of 88.
A former newspaper reporter who has roamed the southeastern United States for years covering football and eating way too many barbecue ribs, if there is such a thing.
