W. D. Chadwick coached three sports at Mississippi A&M (a.k.a. Mississippi State) in the early 1900’s, including five seasons as head football coach from 1909-1913. Chadwick posted five straight winning seasons while coaching the football team and only lost more than two games in a season twice during that time. His 1910 team finished 7-2 and his 1913 team finished 6-1-1. Chadwick’s 1911 squad finished the season 7-2-1 and won the Bacardi Bowl that season, his only bowl appearance as a head coach. He was a combined 29-12-2 in five seasons at Mississippi A&M. Chadwick passed away in 1934 at the age of 50.
A former newspaper reporter who has roamed the southeastern United States for years covering football and eating way too many barbecue ribs, if there is such a thing.
